My wife doesn't know what I spent on hers and doesn't want to know.

Shot my Staccato today. I really need to go to the range more.

Good number of people have mentioned the Staccato C2 vs the Platypus. I did a quick shooting vid on it the other day. Here is a table top comparison on them.

Yeah the videos are popping up left and right on Youtube and thus far all in positive light. It is possible someone can make a great weapon equal or better at a better cost. I'm not saying this is the case, it may simply be great at the price tag.

Just realized that Staccato is STI. I almost got a DLC carry back in the day but was unimpressed with the build quality. My friend had one and the cheap shit trigger guard lost a screw at the range. Plastic parts at that price point is unacceptable IMO. Has this changed?

This is my take on that…

Staccato does use polymer for some parts. Its not Night Hawk or Infinity. Its not meant to be. Its a high quality war 1911 double stacked.

Staccatos are the “1911s” you carry when you need one for work.

Can you get by with other offerings? Sure.

Just like you can get by with a Taurus, instead of a Glock, as a cop…

But, if funds aren't lacking, why would you?

@Klaus … I personally dont feel the $2k entry price is unreasonable for what is offered:

STI definitely had there issues. At the time, i only knew 2 people that had owned one. (well a fewof there guns) All 1911’s. They each had issues ranging from build quality to FTF constantly. Extremely picky on ammo. Even then, FTF for days. They mainly catered to the competition market. STI is gone now and they switched to Staccato, dropped all 1911’s, and went back to the drawing board on 2011’s. STI’s are no where close to Staccato’s reliability and in terms of quality, Staccato’s are better. The only polymer is the grip module. Using the P as an example, the frame can be steel or aluminum depending on what you want and the slide is steel obviously. There is a lot more to it than that.

I have not handled a Staccato but the STIs that I handled were DEFINITELY not Nighthawk quality. Honestly not even Springfield TRP quality.

But I get it, there are few options if you want a double stack 1911 that does not weigh 5 lbs and don't want to spend 5k.

I think the real benchmark is SAO legion 229, Wilson/Langdon cent tac, or that CZ carry that just came out.

I do like that they cleaned up their designs. STIs were the Affliction of handguns.

They are not on the same level as nighthawk.

I currently own 2 of the 3 you just mentioned. A SAO legion 229 (and a DA/SA 226 legion) and a Wilsons 92g Beretta Cent Tac with action tune. While those are fantastic guns, i think staccato’s (C2, P, XC and XL) are better overall in my personal opinion. However you have to like the 1911/2011 platform.

A couple of days ago I posted a comparison vid of the Stealth Arms Platypus vs the Staccato C2. Today, I made another vid with a Staccato XC that i have yet to post. People complained about some of the STI customer service back in the day and then it was supposed to have gotten better when they became Staccato. However, I have recently heard complaints again. As a matter of fact, a local gun range ended their relationship because of various issues getting repairs, etc.

I've owned numerous STI's, some factory offerings and others custom made using STI frame/slide/barrel/parts. Obviously the custom ones cost more and were better built and more reliable (although I couldn't tell an accuracy difference from factory), and I used them as competition guns. I never would have used them for self defense or "duty"/carry but that was due to the size/weight/cost and not for reliability. Most of the issues with STI from the reliability stance was due to the magazines, especially with 9mm ammo. Now we have a lot more options for 2011 magazines and some are better than others.

I have not shot a Staccato, but would love to compare it to my Infinity 2011 and 1911 though. Obviously it's not the same, but the cost is also 1/4 of the Infinity so it's not expected to be, it fills an entirely different role.
