So guys just wanted to say I've FINALLY found my dream exhaust setup and i hope this might inspire others as well…. So Ive literally heard just about every exhaust combination out there… Mac Flowpath and Boomtubes, Flowmaster 40 series to 10 series, Spintech,Hooker, Pypes (all kinds), Borla S and Xr1, Gibson, MBRP, Corsa, Stainless works, Dynomax,Kooks, Hearthrob, Magnaflow, SLP LM 1 and 2 ,Roush, and even knock off brands as well….

And after hearing all these setups …With both headers Cat and Catless X and H pipes… Ive narrowed it down to One type of muffler…. and they are

The Sweet thunder / Classic Chambered Powered sticks (Straight thru chambered)

This was at a car show… with many 4v motors and camaros…

There were four cobras (three of them cammed )and one camaro LS1 cammed…

The first cobra had LTs, Off-Road X pipe and Borla Stingers… although it sounded good kinda exotic… it was way too raspy and not deep enough… nice tone but it didn't sound muscle to me IMO.. and you could barely hear the cams… idle was kind of quiet..

Then I heard the next cobra and it had LTs, Off road H pipe and borla stingers as well… now… let me say this setup sounded pretty sweet… and the idle was deeper and slightly louder but couldn't really hear the cams that well… but WOT and revs were AMAZING

The third cobra had LTs, High flow cats, and and an h pipe with 18 inch sweet thunder sticks…. the idle was much louder but deep and muscle sounding .. as a matter if fact you could hear it over the other two cobras… and when he revved it.. my god i knew right there and then those mufflers were the deal.. i just had to ask him…

The Last cobra had the same setup except with cams. and the idle was literally PERFECT… not too loud .. but you could just HEAR the cams crisp and clear… and WOT was pure sex!… I felt really jealous… No rasp! just pure throaty muscly sound… Funny thing is .. the two guys who had Sweet thunder exhaust were buddies.. Go figure

The camaro had an off road x pipe with Sweet Thunder sticks and it was probably one of the nicest camaros I've ever heard…

So THERE it is guys… to sum it up… they HONESTLY don't sound like glass packs… theres ALOT of rumors saying they sound like glass packs and they don't.. TRUST ME on this one…. I know Sweet Thunders are usually on LS1 camaros but they're going on every v8 I own from now on.. ! :)

@2003cobra22 , Yeah man ! Don't get me wrong they sound nice and clean… but the idle IMO isn't loud enough and WOT is decent

@b_dike , Unfortunately i DID NOT, …. now on youtube there two mustangs … one a NEW 5.0 with x pipe and classic chambered, and another 2002 Mustang gt with catted h pipe and classic chambered … Here are the links… The vids don't do justice for the 2002 Mustang GT… it sounds kind of glasspackish but in real life it sounds 100x better….

The Mustang 5.0 2012 Mustang 5.0 Classic Chambered Exhaust - YouTube
2002 Mustang GT 2002 FORD MUSTANG GT with Powersticks - YouTube

Now just take a sense of what they sound like on these cars and imagine them on a 4v… you'll get the picture:rockon:

@1hot281, Those do sound nice… if only a bit more aggressive and louder idle… though..

@black4vcobra, YUP! those are it !… those actually sound a bit different than classic chambered, in a more deeper better way..:)

And yes they are the same design as the Stainless Works Chambered bullet …they sound good as well but the Sweet thunders have a different core inside as they sound deeper and a bit more throatier , and they're cheaper! :)

there's actually a '13 gt500 at my work right now that has longtubes, o/r x and these thunder sticks. Sounds damn good. Cant wait to hear it on the dyno. It has a very loud/deep tone at idle, but may be a little too loud for me. Maybe if it had cats it would be perfect.

Hell yeah dude!, Spread the info....Im trying to get more people to look into this kind of exhaust because its an underdog and very underrated system.. not too many people have them.. but they sound amazing... but yes i agree! it may be a bit too aggressive for some... but cats should make them a little more mild.

Would love to see a video on a terminator. I searched youtube and could only find them on LS motor cars.

Well of course there is going to be some drone. However I have found that drone can be reduced significantly based on the Mid-Pipe that you use, and also the placement of the mufflers,mid-pipe, tail pipes etc.... dumper or not... I think the guy in the video has an O/R X pipe with the chambered sticks dumped . If you really want to get rid of Drone just use an interior liner from second-skin.. but an H pipe and correct muffler placement should fix it usually.

Hey buddy, It's you're car. Do what you want. I just find it annoying to have a car that sounds really bad when your trying to drive. Drone sounds great at first, untill you keep driving and driving. Then it just sounds like a bunch of noise. Do What YOU want. Just giving my opinion. And remember, maybe an underdog, but you get what you pay for. Speaking of an underdog, and great quality...I recommend stainless works. In a couple of years or so they will be up there with the rest of the pack.

I agree. I mean in the end it all comes down to "personal taste"... i made this thread to help influence people who have heard just about every muffler and wanted to go a different route and also on making a decision on a muffler that was definitely different in sound .... its got the best of both worlds IMO... awesome chambered sound with straight thru throaty sound... Doesn't get much better. As far as "getting what you pay for" ... Im going to have to disagree.. Its probably one of the most "bang for the buck" systems out there... You have options in Aluminized or 304 stainless steel ... and I'm pretty sure I havent heard anyone complain about Classic Chambered or Sweet Thunder yet.. They have excellent customer service and all parts are made in USA/Canada. Hell go ask the guys at LS1Tech. They sure seem to be satisfied with Sweet Thunder:)... As far as Stainless Works... They are a great product nonetheless and quality is top notch!, however you are paying a pretty penny and you can definitely find something cheaper for just as good :)... just my .02

Pushrod mufflers tend to fail sound wise when installed on Mod motors. ie Flowmasters, Pypes, and dynomax on a push rod sound great but on Mod motors just sound like noise and have TONS of drone. Sadly I think these fall in the same category. The drone would drive me insane.

LOL. Theres no such thing as "Pushrod" mufflers haha. Yes, An OHC design motor will sound completely different than a Pushrod, but the muffler has nothing to do with which motor it likes…. Let me elaborate. Everyone here is a big fan of the "Stinger" muffler which is also used on the Corvette Exhaust System and the Corvette is a pushrod… Also a lot of people here use Flowmaster/Mac/Spintech and those are "so-called" pushrod mufflers… Again Drone comes down to muffler placement, Type of Midpipe, Resonators, …Dumped or not etc….. Not based on just the muffler,, HOWEVER there are mufflers that do reduce drone in the design itself (for ex) Corsa,Magnaflow.. Also I've seen mufflers on both type of motors OHC or OHV… For ex) Dynomax Bullet, Borla Xr1, Pypes Bullet, Magnaflow Oval bodies; so your point is irrelavant unfortunately. Until you ACTUALLY HEAR these mufflers in person with the correct mid pipe, and also in car, then you have no say in this.

I like my ARH Longtubes (1 3/4"), 3" catted X and Steeda (quiet Borla) exhaust....I may end up going catless H to clean up the sound a little. This setup is a little raspy but not bad. The thing I like about it is that it's fairly quiet at idle but really opens up at WOT. Also there is NO drone with this setup.

The thing is with exhaust, it's all opinion. One person may like one setup and the next person won't. It's great that there are so may options out there to make everyone happy.
