Also posted this in the exhaust section, but here it goes:

So for the past few weeks, I've been hearing this ticking noise from my car when I'm driving close to a median or other sound reflective surface. It's not noticeable when driving in an open area. Anyway, the motor itself sounds perfectly normal, so I thought it might be something caught in my tires or an exhaust leak, etc.

Well today I started her up and took a look under the car. At the connection between my h-pipe and the catback, there was a plume of exhaust gas bellowing out, as well as a pool of gas forming on the floor below. Being a mechanical noob, I wanted to ask you guys if this sounds about right for an exhaust leak and if this leak could be responsible for the ticking noise I've been hearing?

Does this sound like something a chain auto shop could repair with a new gasket?

Thanks for the help!

Where your mid pipe to catback connects its probably just loose. Do you have a jack and jack stands? The best way to find out it jack it up, see if it's loose and tighten the bolts. You don't need crazy tools, I believe it's a 15mm socket and then just have some adjustable pliers. It most likely is an exhaust leak. And you won't need a gasket where the mid pipe connects to the catback, only where the midpipe connects to the manifolds on the passenger side, and the manifolds themselves obviously.

yeah man, the u bolts are probalby just loose.. happens every once in a while with my car since its so low and scrapes every once in a while. easy fix, jack it up and throw some jack stands under it. line it back up real good and tighten the ubolts.. takes all of 15-20 mins. no need to pay a mechanic for something simple like that

That's not gas you see in the floor leaking out it's condensation. I would jack up the car and see if you can tighten up the bolts.

Thanks for all the advice. I definitely scraped the resonators a few times and I think that knocked the midpipe to catback connection out of alignment. Found out that it's a ball and socket flange so once I get it jacked up, that should take care of it. I'm just crossing my fingers that this will take care of the ticking noise I was hearing.

I knew I'd find you in here.
