Do highway patrol only give out speeding tickets? 95% of the time I see them they have a speed trap set up and once I seen a highway potrol at a reck in a bad rain storm sitting with his light on as these 2 women are standing in the rain because they ran there car off the road. Is it again the rules to let them sit in his car until there ride comes? We dont need highway patrol anymore now that we have the road side assistence guys in the trucks who can actually help you when your stuck on the side of the road. I seen a COP helping a women change her tire on the side of the road once . And all of the city cops I have ran into have been ok.

Whats worse dring fast or driving tired? I got 2 speeding tickets after driving for 2 hours , driving in the middle of no where and being alone. all 3 things that the driving class says to stay away from. What should I do in that situation next time?

Answer to question #1 = No.

Answer to question #2 = Maybe.

Answer to question #3 = Both.

Answer to question #4 = Follow the advice of the driving class next time....

That is all, At ease - smoke 'em if you got 'em.

The Highway Patrol does not only issue citations. Warnings are issued if it is a minor infraction. As far as the two women standing in the rain, whose to say that they opted to do that. There is too many what ifs on this issue. Folks are welcome to sit in my patrol car but if they don't want to, I can't make them. Driving over the speed limit is a violation, duh. Driving tired is not. Driving in the middle of no where is NOT an exception to speeding. No pun intended, show me in the law book where driving in the middle of no where is an exception? What is a SPEED TRAP? You speed you trapped yourself! NO ONE TRAPPED YOU. "WE DO NOT TRAP ANYONE."

"Duties: The life of a State Trooper is challenging and rewarding. State Troopers are highly motivated hard-working law enforcement officers that specialize in traffic safety. Over 1,632 women and men patrol Florida's 80,967 miles of Interstate, and State roads. We work to make our highways safe using state-of-the-art training, equipment, technology and resources. By enforcing the State's criminal, traffic, motor vehicle and driver licensing laws we regulate the flow of traffic. We assist motorists, perform motor vehicle inspections and investigate traffic crashes. Troopers detect and apprehend impaired drivers and search for missing and wanted persons. Investigators work driver license fraud, identity theft and odometer fraud cases. We serve as occupant protection specialists, drug recognition experts, and traffic homicide investigators. We also have felony officers and canine handlers who specialize in highway contraband interdiction. Plus, we offer many other exciting career and promotional opportunities. "

What is your definition of a "speed trap"? I'm curious.....
One of them :
Coburg, Oregon Speed Trap Returns
The city of Coburg, Oregon, population 969, will take in $630,000 in speeding ticket revenue.

Coburg ticket trapDespite efforts by the Oregon legislature to shut down speed trap operations, the city of Coburg is on track to collect 37 percent of its annual revenue from speeding tickets this year. In 2003, state legislators adopted the "Coburg law," a measure aimed at protecting motorists who pass near the tiny city of 969 residents along the Interstate 5 freeway.

The law, which took effect January 2004, prevented a city from retaining fines issued on property -- such as the freeway -- beyond its city limits. As a result, Coburg's budget plunged $600,000 into the red.

The city responded by annexing a portion of Interstate 5, its main source of revenue, allowing the city to keep ticket profits once again. The maneuver has brought ticket revenue back to a level of $53,000 a month, and Coburg expects to take in even more when statewide traffic fine increases take effect in January.

Source: I-5 citations still big part of Coburg funds (Eugene Register-Guard (OR), 11/30/2005)

Here's the bottom line: If you speed, you are breaking the law. Police are there to enforce the law. This isn't so hard.

In florida the highway patrol is responsible for attending to all accidents outside of city limits. And anyone whos ever lived in florida knows that this means 97% of the state. Down here they are undermanned and underpaid. Every experience Ive had with them (florida only) has been very positive. THey seem to get the brunt of the crap calls here but do their job well. The only department I see as not needed in florida is the shariffs department. I am biased though as every runin Ive had with them has been extremely negative, not just because of a ticket but the sheriffs attitude in general. But NE ways, highway patrol is a plus. If they wern't there youd just be waiting that much longer in a accident situation.

In Florida the County Sheriffs Office is responsible for all criminal calls in the county, with the exception of the few incorporated cities that have their own P.D.s. So the S.O.s are extremely important.

FHP doesnt respond to criminal calls outside of the the various city limits, the S.O. does. FHP runs the state roads!

I never made it as far as becoming a Kansas State Tooper, but I was pretty far along in the application process with the Troopers until the Army made me an offer I couldn't refuse (really...I tried) to return to service.
In Kansas State Troopers, Highway Patrol and the Capitol Police are different divisions of the State Police. So the roll of a Trooper in Kansas could vary widely depending on the Trooper's posting. Not to mention MV inspectors, Air Patrol, Weight stations (not actually troopers, but part of the state police) and your good old fashion desk jockey. Im sure this ditribution is similar in other states. Im sure there are some I missed too.

So HP officers do a little more than make women stand in the rain and entrap unsuspecting speeders.

I love how it states women and men, even tho alphabetically and it has always been men and women. *Sigh* my state is becoming so PC, I pray that shit never makes its way completely into the military, or im moving to Cuba. Lots of nice classic american cars there =p

Driving tired is always a bad thing. 60 bucks for a hotel is alot cheaper than a Citation for speeding or what it will cost you to pay the family of the person you kill when you fall asleep.

The CA Vehicle Code contains language defining a "speed trap" and further; deems them illegal.

Wish we had that here in VA. Be CAREFUL not to exceed 45 MPH in Boones Mill, VA (US 220, between Roanoke and Rocky Mount) or Buddy will chase you down in his Camaro! Boones Mill is so bad, it once made the AAA list of 10 top speed traps in the USA!

Team work. I have a detail July 4th... 6 hours of nothing but chasing down cars by buddy with the laser is calling out to us.

So you cops have these fast cars and dont speed?[/QUOTE]

There's a time and a place... that time is not rush hour and the place isn't the highway. I can't say I haven't been stopped since I have been on the job but I wasn't racing and when I did get stopped... I fully intended to get a ticket. I have been given breaks just like I have given many motorists breaks.
