Well contrary to a lot of what we've heard here on the forum, Horsepower TV is claiming that the Blue paint on the D/S head denotes the new design...So is this true or what?...Since they mentioned the tick, you'd think they got their info straight from Ford before broadcasting that...

For what's it's worth. My head was replaced for the tick and the new one DOES have the blue paint. But I too have see conflicting posts on what this actually means. Oh well, no tick now (knock on wod) so I really don't care what it means... :D

I don't have blue paint, and no tick yet. 16800 miles. I was told me an SVT tech at the local dealer that the new heads have been coming back with more and worse problems than the old ones.

Let's finally settle this.

When the MotorCity Terminators toured the niche line at the Romeo Engine Plant, (where our engines are hand assembled) we were told that blue stripes = new design.

We received some good information at that tour and the Dearborn Assembly Plant Tour. I am looking forward to the new tours we will have for our members.

If that is the case and the blue head is the revised head, I am a little ticked.. I just bought a new driver's side head to fix the tick and it is not blue.. would ford still be selling the old revision head?

Alright. . .from what I heard, the blue paint is 'supposed' to mean its the updated head. . .BUT. . .as we all know, a lot of the blue heads still tick and some without the blue don't tick.

So whatever the blue paint is supposed to mean, they obviously didn't use it correctly. Or, all the people with the blue head and the tick don't really have the tick. The noise must have been something else. Who knows

Well, I've got the blue paint, a 3/03 build date AND the tick! It is definitely "the tick" as I jacked the car up and listened with my stethoscope and it is coming right from the rear of the driver's head. Could only isolate it's origin from underneath. Kinda waiting to see if Ford does actually comes out with a more definitive fix.

I have worked in factory's where prints and and revisions are done.

I would bet that the the following was done.

Blue stripe went to driver side head untill enough were built then they did passenger head till they were sure no more unpainted heads that had tic problems in plant.

Once all heads were deemed gone. There of course no need to paint heads anymore. for easy ID for assemblers to place on drivers side.

No blue paint here . . . build date April 23, 2002 . . . No tick . . . 13,000 miles on the odo

Note: I do hear slight ticking when the hood is propped up . . . not sure if this is normal or what . . . when the hood is down you cant BARELY hear it and its only if you are paying attention to it

I have white paint on my heads, 11/4/02 and no tick. As far as I remember, the color of the paint had nothing to do with the tick, it was just a reminder for the engine builders as to which head goes on the driver's side.
