Im an engineer for a very small engineering firm in socal making stuff for the government and some other contractors. Its my first job after college. I don't dislike my job. People are super nice and easy going. The owners have a very strong interest in making sure everyone is happy. The job is super chill and easy. The only other engineer here is super cool. The pay and benefits suck though. i make a minimum of 10K a year less than I think I should be making. no health insurance, no vacation for a year. after a year I get 1 week vacation, then it goes up to 2 after 2 years and stays there. The kicker is we get 2 weeks unpaid time off for Christmas and new years. So you basically get no paid vacation if you want any extra time off. I don't even get a 401k plan. they have a "profit sharing plan" that is their replacement but no one can tell me anything about it. Thats really the only thing I don't like is the benefits. Oh and the fact I have no where to go even though I just started this year. No one has gotten a raise in over 10 years either. Oh well, I never planned on staying here forever anyways. Just a stepping stone to a bigger company. Sorry to hear there are so many people out there who hate their jobs.
