After a bit of thought, I came up with my own idea on how to mount a double DIN headunit in a 94-98 (94-00 technically)

First order of business is to purchase a 01-04 radio bezel. I found 2 at a local boneyard for a total of $20.
I sprayed mine with SEM trim black spray paint, I also sprayed my shifter bezel to ensure it all matches.

YES, contrary to what I read in other areas, the 94-98 shifter bezel fits perfectly with the 01-04 radio bezel.

OK, remove your 94-00 radio bezel and attempt to dry fit the 01-04 piece. You will quickly see the material that needs to be removed (mostly where the original piece screwed in). Also, where the 3 buttons go, at the bottom of the bezel, will need to be cleared out behind as well if you plan on popping in the switches/buttons.

After you have it popping in as it should, you have completed the easy part! (Just kidding, it's all easy)

I then used epoxy to attach the Scosche radio install kit (Part # FD1428B for 01-04 Mustangs etc) directly to the 01+ radio bezel. I had to shave a hair off the top and bottom of the Scosche kit to make it sit flush in the bezel opening.

I also hot glued the AC duct to the bezel to hopefully cure the creaking noise we get in there.

While the epoxy was drying, I took some measurements and grabbed some cardboard. I made a cardboard template of the bottom of the radio (sorry forgot to take a pic). It was just a flat piece of cardboard that I taped in place on the Scosche kit. I taped it across the bottom of the Scosche kit so it would act as the bottom of the radio. With just the template attached to the bezel/Scosche kit, it was easy to view inside the double DIN hole and get some measurements to fab up a support for the rear of the radio.

I ended up making two 2 1/2" L brackets, and using the "cage from the old aftermarket radio that was existing in the car. I cut the cage up so it was pretty much just the bottom left, and about 1/4" on the sides. The "L" brackets are riveted to the cage piece, and then I just coated it with some semi flat black and glued some foam to it to avoid any squeaking etc.

The bracket mounts using the mounting location where the original bezel mounted in the back, and I made a second hole for the other side.

Now, just slide the radio in and screw it to the sides of the Scosche kit. Plug in any radio/switch plugs and then align the radio so it sits on the shelf and pop the bezel in.

All done!

Thanks for the write up! Doing this right now. Waiting on my epoxy to dry then I'll fab up my shelf.
