How to protect third brake light from UV light.

I have a mint 99-04 GT third brake light that I would like to put on my car, however I want to protect it somehow before it gets hazy like they tend to do with exposure to the sun. I originally wanted to get it clear coated but someone from Maaco said you would have to scuff it up for the clear coat to properly adhere to the light. He advised me not to go that route. Maybe I need to find a new bodyshop.

What should I do in this case? I'd like to find something that is more permanant than a coating that I have to re-apply. Are there any clear UV protectant films that exist?

Searching around, I found this. I may order them for my headlights and some for the third brake light.

They are already clear coated. That's what makes them look hazy and cracked, like front headlights.
Mine looked white with small cracks so I sanded the clear coat off with 2000grit then polished it with a buffer and it looks show quality perfect.

I understand they have a coating from the factory; I want to protect that coating. I have no spoiler on the car to shade the lens, so it will get destroyed in no time.

Keep it waxed, sealed or ceramic coat it. Be good to go.
