It's based off of the serial number IIRC.
Last I spoke to a vortech representative, I was based off of the impeller shaft. If it protrudes approximately at least 1/2'' past the nut holding the impeller, it was able to be upgraded. I believe I have it in my previous emails. I will edit the post with the exact information verbatim if I'm able to find it before someone else posts.
