I test drove a 2019 Edge ST this afternoon and overall I liked it. Not as much as I liked the G70, but it was nice. Nicer overall than my '16 Edge Sport. My impressions after a rather short drive were that the ST rides a bit stiffer but not so much to make the ride uncomfortable. I noticed the increased stiffness more going in a straight line than in a turn/curve. Acceleration felt stronger than I expected since the ST is only making 20 more horsepower than the Sport (but weighs about 150 lbs. more). I suspect that the reason is more due to the great 8-speed transmission. The upshifts were fast and very crisp with no lag. Ford nailed it with this transmission. My Sport 6-speed pales by comparison, and sometimes seems to try to figure out which gear it wants. The transmission just knows what it needs to do, and does it. The engine note was noticeably deeper than my Sport. More throaty, but not too harsh. I liked it. The seats is the ST, sadly, were not much more firm/supportive than my Sport seats. The seat cushion is still too soft. The side bolsters are a bit stiffer which is good, but overall I was expecting the ST seat to be noticeably better and more supportive. It wasn't. Like I said, overall I liked the ST. It is better than my Sport, but lacked a bit in the traditional ST performance feel. Would I recommend one? Sure! Would I buy one? I'd consider it, but I'm still leaning towards the G70. I haven't ruled it out because I've got a few months to make the decision. Next up will be a Challenger Scat Pack in the near future.
