They claim the tank will soak up then engine heat and have an adverse effect on cooling. I saw the exact opposite. After a 2 hour cruise the tank was ambient temp to the touch and the coolant in the tank was cool as well. Temps in PA are currently in the low 70's. I am very happy how my setup is performing currently, however I would like to lower the temps even further to the point I can beat on the car in the summer heat and not have to worry about the car pulling timing. This winter I will be sending my intercooler to Greg to be modded for 1" fittings as well as having 1" fittings welded onto my gt500 Afco heat exchanger. I will update with pictures as I receive the intercooler and I will report temp changes in the spring. The cobra is headed into hibernation in the next few weeks. To recap, it currently has about a 30 degree difference between iat1 and iat2. Sorry for rambling but I hope to help others chase cooler temps.
I finally got the chance to install my tank from Greg Jones. I am very happy with the quality. The filler cap is billet with a nice thick sealing gasket. All of his welds are perfect and he included a nice drain plug on the bottom. There is a large grate over the exit for holding ice as well as a deflector that re-directs the coolant to the right side of the tank. I had him weld on 1" fittings as I plan to upgrade my intercooler to 1" in the future. My temps are down about 5 degrees. Not a huge difference, however the recovery is amazing. Before with the factory plastic tank I could only do 2 hard pulls before the car would completely heat soak. During my test I did 5 hard pulls back to back and the temps came right back to cruising temp. I had tons of people on social media talking crap about me going with an under the hood tank. To recap, it currently has about a 30 degree difference between iat1 and iat2. Sorry for rambling but I hope to help others chase cooler temps.
