This has probably been covered, but just in case it wasn't I thought I'd share my experience. I had this bearing noise coming from the accessories, and with a screwdriver to my ear, 100% of the noise seemed to come from the alternator. I checked everywhere else and I was positive it was an alternator bearing.

With the belt off, I spun the idler pulley and to my surprise, it matched the bearing noise I had been hearing all this time exactly. With no belt, the alternator sounded fine. Just replaced the idler pulley and the noise is completely gone. It truly surprised me how well the belt transferred the noise so directly.

Just thought I'd share the info.
