I installed an e-cam in my 5.0 but a friend is wanting me to help him install cams in a 4.6. Is this harder to do than a cam in a 5.0? What all would you have to do to the 4.6?

You need front timing cover gaskets, valve cover gaskets, fluids, and proper cam timing gears. Sometimes the old ones are pressed on depending on the year. Valve spring compressor and new valve springs may be needed depending on cam lift and duration. Comp Cams has an awesome set of springs for the 4.6!

Do you know the cam specs? Are you going to pull the heads and do any P&P work on them? You'll need heads gaskets and new head studs also. The stock TTY bolts can not be reused. I suggest the ARP head bolts if you guys go this far.

my buddy and I put a set of SHM cams in his 01GT. its got bolt in cam gears and a passenger side oil fill.... we had to get new bolts for the SHM cams because the OE bolts were too small.

check the new 5.0 mustang mag for a cam swap article!
