What is the labor participation rate currently? I think that is a better number to use.

I will be trying to fill a position here in the next month or so and will have to hire a person without experience as there are more jobs than qualified people in my field.
We have a bunch of positions open company wide. We can’t fill positions paying over twice the median income for the area.
Of course faggits with degrees in underwater cisgender studies can’t get a job. Their only skill is deep throating.

I’ve had both family and friends move from New England to Florida. All returned in a year due to the summer heat. It really is brutal.
All those Fayetteville Technical Community College degrees just ensure you have a place in line at Walmart and KFC jobs.
after 10+ yrs in industry (engineering & manufacturing) i find these "worker shortage" reports to be greatly exaggerated or just plain horse manure.
Several large corporations lobbied the feds and published reports saying that there weren't enough skilled STEM workers in USA. The number of H1B visas skyrocketed and plenty of degreed engineers in the USA were laid off and replaced with indian contract workers. Microsoft even forced their employees to train their replacements or lose their severance. So at the same time they scream worker shortage they were tossing engineers out the back door.
At the plant i work at now they laid off probably 30+ machinist with decades experience, then they laid off at least half the process engineers. They attempted to outsource the parts to a low cost outside supplier and it was a total disaster. This was about 2yrs ago. By the end of the last year we had past due orders over $3mil, machines were down and most of the stuff coming in was scrap. It got so bad they were forced to eat some major crow and hire back at lot of personnel.
Boeing has over $10 billion in open orders and they are still laying off people while at the same time telling the state they can't find people.
General electric layed off 12,000 something people last year and more this year.
The carrier air conditioner plant that Trump campaigned layed off 30-40% of their workforce after taking a tax incentive designed to save jobs.
i could go on and on with more examples...
I do like the fact that Trump is trying to do some better trade deals but im not drinking the koolaid with these artificially low UE numbers.
It's a perfectly plausible scenario for a company to lay people off and still not be able to find good employees. Now, you can say maybe they should've kept the people they had. But if they were trash employees, maybe they're better getting rid of them and finding new people instead of paying them for shit work.
There is no question there's a shortage of good STEM employees.
What industry are you in?
We are also looking for a couple managers in my job and are having trouble finding any qualified applicants.
Maybe employment is on the rise, but where is the break down if they're $10 an hour jobs or livable wages.
So indian contract workers that barely speak english and got a degree from a fly by night school are better than experienced engineers who get layed off in the states?
If you look at the number of STEM graduates every year compared to the number of openings nationwide there is staggering difference. There were over 100,000 STEM grads from accredited programs in 2015 alone.
Then if you look at supply vs demand wage growth for these same fields you will find the curve to be flat. Not a proportional increase in salary according to the demand.
Just last year that Trump administration started cracking down on "widespread abuse" of the visa program.
Cost savings and resistance to changeis driving the old guys out. The engineering world is changing drastically and those adverse to change are not surviving and usually that is the egotistical "experienced" engineer whose favorite line is we have been doing it this way for years... I was told when i came in we have bled the process dry no savings to be had yet in 3 years I have 3-4x their productivity savings. These guys work exactly 8hrs 30 mins a day no more no less. Take breaks and always an 1hr lunch no ambition and just holding on till retirement. Is that a valuable asset or is someone hungry for making a difference and out to prove themselves (regardless of nationality or Alma Mater)? So indian contract workers that barely speak english and got a degree from a fly by night school are better than experienced engineers who get layed off in the states?

The STEM Crisis Is a Myth
Pretty sure he wasn't complaining about him making $10, dude.Maybe find a better career?
The show up early and stay late and do it for 75% of the pay a US worker would do it for.

Without agreeing or disagreeing with you, can I ask you what the point of working for pay is if you can't support yourself on it is then?I wasn’t directing that at him, more the comment.
I disagree with this notion that everyone working deserves a living wage. Wages are dictated by the so many variables, none of which should be some a Utopian BS belief.
With the access to information today there is no reason why current young people should be complaining about pay in their field.
