I just ordered the K&N recharger service care kit. I'm assuming that this is the right product to use to clean the filter. Haven't cleaned it yet. How often do these need cleaning, any tips ?

That is the correct part,as far as cleaning that would depend on what your driving conditions are. Say if you drive in a dust bowl then you would have to clean the filter more often. I would say recharge it every 10,000 miles under good conditions, can't hurt to clean it often. And as far as tips.......DO NOT OVER OIL the filter........enjoy.

I thought they were good for 50K miles between cleaning. I know, if you live in a dust bowl, more often, but mine still looks great after 10K miles. I guess cleaning counldn't hurt -- or can it?

I clean mine once a year if it needs it or not. Make sure you don't put too much oil on it or the oil will get onto the mass air sensors and cause problems.
