Over the winter I'm planning to get a set of Kooks headers with an off-road X. I live in RI which means the emissions cannot throw any check engine lights, luckily inspection is every other year. I know they offer the green cats but I was wondering if anyone has ever made their own Catted mid pipe at a much cheaper cost? I had one made for this reason on an old gt for like $200 using some stock cats (just for inspection time)BUT that was with stock headers. I'm not sure the difference long tubes would make.
I'm curious about this for two reasons
1) i'm afraid to spend the grand plus on the greens and they get fried overtime
2) this pipe would be on the car 1-2 weeks every other year.
