Let's talk seats...

I currently have the stock '03 seats with the Kenny Brown seat rail
extenders on the driver's side. I'm 6'7 so I needed more leg room
than the stock position could offer. I've had them for 3 years now
and everything is fine, but comfortability and seat position (height)
could be better...which leads me to my question:

Will aftermarket seats lower the "seat height" and provide the same
leg room as the seat rail extenders?

As a result of the driver's seat being a bit higher than stock, I have to
tilt the steering wheel up some so my left leg will clear it and the door
when I depress the clutch. I'd love to be able to have the steering
wheel in the vertical position. Do you think an aftermarket seat would
allow that?

Up to this point, all $$$ has been dumped into making power and
suspension mods. I think that needs to change slightly.

Comments and pics would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on how high you want the seat to sit. I have some Sparco Torinos in my car and I have the seat height adjusters set on the middle setting, and on this setting I think I actually sit lower than the stockers. I never compared heights or anything between the two seats, but I feel that I sit lower with the aftermarket seats than the stockers. You can also lower them one additional setting, but you have to trim the lowerst bracket hole off of the bottom of the height adjuster. As you can see in the picture below, the area circled in orange is the height adjuster. I am 6'3" and have mine set in the middle, and I clearly have about 2 inches from the top of my head to the roof of the car.

As per the legroom in the car, if I scoot the seat all the way back as far as it will go, there is approx. 4 inches of space between the back of the seat and the vertical portion where the back seat would go (I have a RSD). With the seat being all the way back as far as it can go, I cannot disengage the clutch (push it to the floor) entirely. In this case, I have to scoot a couple inches forward just to be able to push the clutch to the floor.

If you have the seat all the way back and with the seat height adjusters set as low as they can go, I bet that you would not be able to depress the clutch to the floor all the way. That being said, I think you could have the steering wheel in the normal position without having to worry about your knee hitting it at all.

Things would be easiest if you could just come and sit in my car to be able to test things out for yourself. I wish I could perfectly explain this for you over the web like this, but things get lost in translation unfortunately.
