Long Tube Hearder Install has caused problem with steering shaft

After the install my steering wheel has a 1/2 inch of play in either direction and it sqweekz.

does anyone know if I can fix the problem or did I damage the steering shaft?

its an 03 cobra the headers are Mac Long Tubes

How did you install the headers? Did you drop the k-member? If so, did you tighten the steering rack, shaft and tie rod ends.

I did drop the k-member and everything is tight.

It sounds like the plastic or rubber in the steering shaft is loose and making noise.

Are you sure the steering shaft is fully seated onto the steering gear? When I reinstalled mine, I thought it was on all of the way but it had another inch to go before it was fully seated.

Also, did you lock the steering wheel after the shaft was removed? The Ford manual warns that damage could result if the steering wheel is turned while the shaft is disconnected... maybe that has something to do with it?

Yeh the steering was locked until I was reattaching it to the rack.

I am pretty sure but It will not take more than a few minutes to check agian.
