Cliff notes: 5th gear went out for some reason, now my car is making a really lound clunk after coming to a complete stop. 1-4 gears seem to operate fine (shifting/engagement).
Any ideas?! Probably more than just the synchro at this point? :shrug:
I haven't been having any sort of problems, it just let go, all the way today
Cruisin up to TN for a car show gig and a new shop some friends opened up this morning. Cruisin in 5th and put on my left blinker to pass someone and eased on the throttle and half way around the car I hear this loud buzzing/grinding noise. I was like o' great, I must have run over something or my belt snapped for no reason (fairly new, so I figured that wasn't the case). Pulled over, didn't notice anything, and got back on the highway.1-4 gears were fine, but I couldn't shift to 5th at all, so I knew that was the problem. Had to turn around near the state line and limp back south in 4th gear at ~45-55 mph. As I got off the interstate, I noticed a few rotational noises and that there is a really loud clunk after coming to a complete stop.
