Lug Torque Question (search is still down)

Quick question - what is the torque spec for the wheel lugs for the 2003 Cobra? Is it the same for front and rear? Using stock chrome wheels.

Hmmm, I've been using 95 ft/lbs (which was 99 Cobra wheel torque) without problem. Don't believe it makes a difference if they are chromed or not.

EDIT: Yes, same front and rear.

I usually do 90-95. I will be getting the new Eibach wheel spacers soon so I dont want anything going anywhere!!

I do 95 in a star pattern on the front and 100 in the rear. The reason I do 100 in the rear is I have wheel spacers and want to make sure I don't have any problems.

Ford specs for lugnut torque is 95 - 110 ft lbs.

I've been using 100 ft lbs for years on all my Mustangs and the wheels haven't fallen off yet!

The setting of "8" on the CP734 impact wrench seems to do the trick at 100 psi...close to 100 ft-lbs. almost always.

I keep it low around 85 to90 and don't forget the bolt pattern or you could warp your rotors and I would be carful with a air impact wrench I allways finsih with a good torch wrench Napa,sears,Maco and of course Snapon if you have the money.

Thanks for the data dump! Good info. I guess I need to spring for a Helms manual or a Ford dvd.

I didn't see it in the owner's manual but stopped by the Ford dealer today and they showed me in a Mustang shop manual where the torque spec is 95 lb/ft. It was a 2004 manual but I think it would be the same for my 2003. That matches the number in xenon's post.

FYI, the socket size appears to be 13/16"

Grease the Lugs

Something nobody brought up...aren't we supposed to grease the threads before torquing?

That would have a huge affect on the torque, like 10% or better.
