Maine Proposes Internal Combustion Engine Ban

From SEMA:

Maine's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has published a SEMA-opposed regulation submitted by an environmental group that, if approved, would require the state to adopt California's latest motor vehicle emissions laws and outlaw the sale of new gas- and diesel-powered cars beginning in 2035. Maine has historically followed California's tailpipe laws.

SEMA believes that Mainers, not the government, should decide what vehicles are best for them and their families. Furthermore, the automotive industry is embracing new technology to make cars cleaner and more efficient, which includes hydrogen, new synthetic fuels, alternative fuels and improvements to the internal-combustion engine. Simply put, the government should allow the market to continue to innovate all forms of technology that significantly reduce vehicle emissions, not just electric vehicles.

Maine is 95% rural. An EV will not, can not function reliably in Maine. The distances are to vast and operating in extreme cold conditions are impediments to eliminating ICE. Just because some dingbats in Augusta and Portland want it to be so, does not make it so.

More pandering for the young vote….scary because the commie youngsters are the ones voting and taking office.

Realistically, bans like this will make it to the Supreme Court and will be shut down, which means they will continue to do what they do now…soft bans like we see now with unrealistic mpg goals, subsidies for EVs, gas taxes, etc…

It's a 3d chess right wing plot. Get all of the Maine libs to buy EV's and after 3 winters they will all have become peoplesicles in some snowbank. Just throw an upstate Socialism for the Future rally the third February and get any that were still around.

Let's see. It gets cold in Maine. Really cold. And EVs do sooooooooooooooo well in cold because batteries just love that.

Here is the thing about that. These batteries have heaters so that they operate at optimal temperature. Same with heat, they have a cooling system so they don't get to hot. Guess where they get the power to heat and cool the batteries? From the batteries themselves. As a result the range of the batteries is significantly reduced so that the batteries can stay in an optimal temperature range.
The batteries in an EV have optimal range in a climate of 60*F to about 90*F. over that or under that and the range starts to drop. If it is -20*F the range drops a BUNCH. Same with temps over 100*F

Funny thing, actually, hilarious thing, there was a power outtage near LA where the transformers blew up in the evening due to overload on the power grids

Main culprit? Yep, you guessed it, EV charging. They're also encouraging EV owners to charge their cars after 9PM to avoid overload's lol
