anyone have any real world experience with the 3.2 mercedes and 5sp auto? i'm looking at a 98 e320 auto with about 98k on the clock. i was wondering what to look out for. thx.

Recently sold a 2001 E320.
When it's running, it's a great car. I really liked it, however .. if "anything" ... (consider that carefully) goes wrong, be ready to spend $$$ (even fixing it yourself)
They are nice cars, but if you're on a budget, leave it alone. First time it breaks, the "deal" turns into a nightmare.
There was a problem with harmonic balancers comming loose and destroying the front of the motor .. don't remember if that goes back to 98, but check the service history for the recall. Window regulator are a crappy design and a 1 cent plastic clip takes it out.
Personally, I'd run screaming ... but good luck if you do it.
