Austrian Death Machine- side project spoof from As I Lay Dying's front man, but it's sick stuff! (All instruments and vocals were played by this one guy when recording)

This video reminds me of some of Tool's stuff.

If you liked Killswitch theres def alot of bands in that "genre" of metal that have varried sounds and are totally sick!
Most are from Mass too!

sorry man, but death metal and hardcore are 2 totally different types of music.

death metal = cannibal corpse

N.Y.H.C = V.O.D
And no they aren't.
Hardcore started here in good ole Massachusetts in the 90s.
Hardcore is a mix of metal style riffs, with death metal screaming.
It's also superior IMO to death metal simply because the songs aren't usually simple riffing with screaming. It's prolly the most talent filled metal category next to the thrash guys (Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeath, Trivium, etc)

I think its the other way around about the riffs, being that hardcore actually came from punk and deathmetal from thrash metal. The riffs played in death metal are usually more complex as opposed to your average 3 chord progression you usually hear in hardcore. I agree with deadly... Fetus FTMFW

ATR is hardcore, and the guitar and drumwork far surpasses many bands as far as complexity.
Oli Herbert (guitarist) is a god damn god.
And hardcore uses metal riffs. End of discussion. Drop D, powerchords. Common place in the genre. Many hardcore bands get called metal bands, and make a stink about it. I dunno why. Metal IMO is a blanket classification for death metal, hardcore, thrash, etc... Metal is pretty much heavy ass hard rock. And hard rock is typically rock with a ton of distortion.
It all emerged from the same stuff.
Rock came from the Doors, Kiss, Aerosmith etc.
Then in the 80s it started splitting. Metal was born.
Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeath.
Throughout the 90s metal changed.
Despite what some folks say, bands like Staind, started as full on grunge bands with lots of metal influences. Granted they got soft, but many bands went that route with the grunge and thrash influence. The late 90s bands like Slipknot and Disturbed came to be. Those guys are pretty much pop metal. Lots of radio play, catchy stuff, jsut enough tallent to win over some so called "metal heads". And now in the 2000s we have bands that are way more tallented. All That Remains, Unearth, In Flames (these guys been around since the 90s tho), Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Dillinger Escape Plan, Soilwork, even Dragonforce. Metal is a genre that will everlast. The bands that started it up are still playing shows. New bands are comming out all the time, and band members are doing side projects that create even more variety. I truely laugh at anyone who says metal is dead, hip-hop ownz, etc... kiss my ass hip-hop ownz. Lil Wayne aint' bad but lets see him do tours the size that Metallica does. Lets see him make 8 min epics... yeah that's what I thought.
