MM urethane steering rack bushings

I just installed them and in the instructions I found on the net from Griggs, it says to cut the metal guide tubes the bolts run through so that just 1/8 of an inch shows outside the K-member. So I did, but the bolt now just free floats in the bushings except for an 1/8 inch. Is this correct? Has anyone else done this?

cut the guide tubes ?

i installed urethane offset bushings on my lowered 88 LX so that does not sound right , Since my 2003 Mach 1 doesent look any different , Sounds like you need to buy new Grade 8 Bolts of the proper lenth now that the guide tubes are shorter ,,,,,,,,,, ? measure twice cut once , buy new Bolts,,,,
