In regards to the answer to #1. While my research just showed that I was partially wrong, I have never sat in a 89 LX 5.0 that had a 140 speedo

My 89 GT was built in October of 88 and had a 140 MPH speedo.:-D

I wonder if your car might have been switched over to a 140mph speedo sometime over the years... I have personally seen as late as Nov. '88 built 5.0 w/85mph and have seen late Dec. '88 built 5.0 w/140mph speedo.

I was thinking all 89 GT's had the 140 cluster but the LX was mid year or 90 model that changed over to 140

I have seen '89 GT's with the 85mph speedo. I don't know what the specifics are, but '89 was the year. Some did, some didn't. I'd be interested to know what the deal actually was though...
