Last bit of advice from some SVT car junkies. This is the latest and greatest that I need some non family advice about.

We would move from around New Orleans to New Jersey to stay with our Fortune 100 employer or stay here and work for a newly formed mid cap company with guaranteed 2yr employment after that it's :??: it could stay the same it could get worse..... I seriously doubt it will get better.

If we stay we have:
260K house which we have no equity in, but we like it 3000sq/ft
15K in restricted stock 3yr vest
12.5k sign on bonus
Similiar insurance etc
We're comfortable here **little job advancement except COL raises**
We lose 7K a year+ in retirment immediately, but this number is growing at 2%/yr with a 23% maximum leading up to 30K+ year.

Jersey
Paid move every iota no out of pocket costs
55K in cash
A 10% pay raise with lots of upside potential
COL goes up 1-1.4k per month.
Much smaller house or renting!

In a nutshell there is no financial benefit until we go down the road 4 years if we do not get promoted...like I said upside potential. If we move again it's another paid move, but no cash. Long term 10-20 years it's a no brainer since our retirement will be fully funded. The next 4-5yrs will be tighter etc. so it's either live more now or live later. I wish I had faith in small/midcap companies I just don't.

Any advice is welcome.

Do you have family in NOLA ? If so are you close with them ?
I have noticed alot of people that move away usually come back home within ten years.
I could never move away from my family, I have a large family and am close with 90% of them.

I say stay because jersey sucks compared to LA, but it looks like you'd be better off moving financially speaking.

I won't be much help; but I don't have much for either state...

Sounds like option B is a little better plan though for the long run.

after living in Kansas City for 26 years, i wouldn't take another job up North to save my life...I'll be darned if I'm ever dealing with snow on a voluntary basis again. i'd move to colorado because I like it there, other than that

WARM WEATHER FTW!!!!!!

Just don't move to congested Northern, Metro NY part of Jersey and you will be fine, winters are NOT as bad as most assume.

It's what you make of it you know, housing and prop taxes are pretty high, even with the slump we have hit.

Good luck.

80%(central and lower) of the state is great imo, don't judge it based on Sopranos or what people who have never been here tell you.

NJ is not as bad as people make it out to be.

This state as bad as it can be at times, has everything one could want,

Beaches=check
Cute Girls=check
NYC ten min from my house=check
THERE is always something to do=check
Job opportunities=check
People moving out=check, I hate the crowded"ness" sometimes.

Where in Jersey... your comments are right on more $, but you could live on the PA side where the property taxes are way cheaper... we just moved out NJ and love it

I'll be the first to be honest about NJ...it is a congested dump. If you're going to be traveling to work in the mornings in Northern NJ through the GSP North and Rte 80 East then you are going to be pulling your hair out. Did this for 4 years. Somerset, Hunterdon and Monmouth County are the real nice areas to live in if your work is located within that vicinity. I honestly don't see anything redeeming about living in NJ. Taxes continue to climb in this state and the cost of living simply will infuriate you. Hopefully you'll work near the NJ/PA border. Living in PA is the way to go. Especially out towards Bucks County.

Actually a few guys do live in Buck and commute 60 miles to the site!! They love it and wouldn't trade it, but I'm not sure I can handle 1hr-1.5hrs in a car 2x a day even though I love driving.

Yep. I used to look forward to the day I'd leave this state, and when I finally did leave, I realized how great it actually was. Hot chicks, awesome concert/sporting venues, easy access to NYC, beaches, and just about anything else you could want. Hell, there's even a dedicated Lamborghini dealer 5 minutes from my house.

Edit: I forgot to mention the major letdown: real estate prices. Many of my friends live at home until 24 or 25 so they can afford a down payment on a house.
