Muffler Hanger vibrating

Been chasing a rattle and it turns out my drivers side hanger for the mufflers has a striped bolt that a mechanic must of done and the bolt just slides in and out of the hole. Tried a new bolt and it does the same. Is there any way to retread that bolt opening? Or am I screwed. The metal hanger rattles on that end due to it not being able to be tightened.

You should be be able to rethread it but would probably have to go one tap size larger and find a matching bolt, or just drill it out and install one of those fancy threaded inserts similar to a helicoil.

Try helicoil if you want to retain the same size.
