ive heard you can flush the r12 out and have them charge it with r134 and it probably be the same price since r12 will cost you an arm and a leg

They make an r12 drop in replacement. You can order it online in auto sized cans, 12oz I think.

Ummm no r12 is illegal to use now. You have to go 134. I have a machine but I doubt you wanna drive all the way to fort Irwin. I usually get cars to blow in the 40s out the vent with r134a. All you need to do is buy the adapter kit. I suggest new o rings as well because r12 I rings don't really like r134 in the long run.

Yes yes you can possibly find a epa certified guy who is licensed to handle r12 but he's not supposed to do anything but recover it and turn it in to be destroyed.

Not a good idea unless you pull a vacuum and know exactly how much you put in and know if there is enough pag oil in the system. If you just hook the can up and open the valve yes you will fill it with freon but guess what is in the system? Air. So now you have air that probably contains moisture "water" freon and pag oil. This makes for higher pressure that recommended. So now you might have 70-80psi low side a d 250-300psi high side. Not good. You want like 50 low and 150 high. Just a caution for you. It's cheaper to just convert.

Careful what you wish for :
some R-12 replacements use PROPANE and BUTANE as a charge medium

( yes as in ticking time bomb )

Go to a licenced shop , have them fix it with R-134a and make sure there is a WARRANTY so if it blows up during the ( WARRANTY Time Period ) they have to fix it
read all the fine print so you know whats covered and what is not covered

you have to pull a vacum on it with a special vacum machine
to check for leaks and get all the moisture and dirt out of the system anyway

sometimes you need to replace every O-Ring in the whole system
for an R-134a upgrade - as in big money $$$

Do it once and be done with it.....

Good Luck sir

Get the adapter fittings, pull a vacuum on the system check for major leaks..charge it with r134a, it will blow cold. Who cares if the r134a eats the o-rings up over time....the system as it sits is worthless otherwise. Save money for the conversion in the meantime

Incorrect. Yes you can use those gases but its illegal and stupid. Btw I am licensed to handle r134a and work on ac systems.
