Got the Dewalt 849 as a gift and to be honest I'm a little intimidated to use it. I have some very bad water spots that need to come out, but would like to do it as safely as possible.

My car is also unfortunately black. Obviosly I've been told keeping it on the 1000 rpm setting is the best. However I'm lost when it comes to pads and polishes. Are foam pads the way to go? I have the Meguir's cleaning compound and the mirror glaze, would these suffice or are there better products out there at a reasonable price?

Thanks in advance for any advice or tips on using this beast.

i recently stepped up from the cyclo to a dewalt. man is it nice to have a fast working machine. yea, it will bite ya if you don't keep moving, have enough polish on the pad, etc, but it is night and day difference. the trick is to keep it from halogramming. with the cyclo, i think that was impossible.

anyways, like thomas said, everything is pretty much in that link. as far as polishes go, that will depend on what your working on. most polishes/compounds are meant for a rotary, so you really cant go wrong. i would recommend meguiars due to the availability/cheapness of the product. GL

Cool, thanks for the advice guys. Hopefully my next thread in here won't involve burning through clearcoat.

Title: Power Tool

I shut your eyes and I fed you lies
I'm up inside - now I cannot hide
those burns on your skin
and the stains on your grin
I took your pain
now you're dropped again

I can't feel the way you want me to -
I'll use you, abuse you, conveniently lose you
I can't feel the way you want me to
It's just my power tool

Who takes your hand
who makes you dance
who's in your pants
your lover, player, president

I can't feel the way you want me to
I'll use you, abuse you, conveniently lose you
I can't feel the way you want me to
It's just my power tool

You lose - don't confuse - what I say
I took you - then threw you away
You're through - don't misconstrue - what I said
All I wanted was just a little head

I can't feel the way you want me to
I'll use you, abuse you
I'll use you, confuse you
I can't feel the way you want me to
It's just my power tool

The Dewalt is heavier

The Makita is not as bulky

Both have the same power so to speak

I have a Makita, just because my work has a good relationship with the Makita Service Center near us.

Power Tool Drag Racing. I am still laughing. The only thing more fun to watch is the rednecks down here drag racing their air boats .... on grass. FTW.
