Need an expert to set up my rear diff, where do I go and should I go with a solid spacer?

A few years ago I changed to a Torsen diff with stock gears. I had a local shop set it up using a new rebuild kit that had a crush sleeve. When I installed it there was a bad whine on acceleration so I brought the car back to shop and they tightened the pinion nut. That worked for a while but in the last couple years there has been a bad growl when hot upon light acceleration and deceleration and getting worse and back lash slop is getting bad. So Im going to pull the diff out and have new gears installed but I want to bring it to an expert for set up and Im also wanting to go with a solid spacer instead of a crush spacer. I have read many post that the Irs is bad on the crush spacer and will eventually cause more back lash and noise. So is there any place in California that expertly can set up these diffs or do I need to send it somewhere? Also what is the recommendation/experiance as to crush spacer vs. solid

i recommend the solid spacer. it's very helpful when its time to change pinion seals.

the fact that it's in an irs makes no difference. both my terminators have a ton of miles on the solid spacer differentials and still work great.

if you're in orange county, i recommend unitrax drivetrain.

and if you've got the scratch, put in a good lsd like a tru trac or wavetrac.

best of luck with it.

I installed the spacer in mine when I rebuilt the diff. I highly recommend it.

I usually recommend GTR High Performance depending where the person lives.

Thanks, where is GTR located.

I was hoping to find a place in central calif. or central coast calif. There is a place in Fresno Ca. called Fearless Gear, but I had a bad experience with them years ago.

GTR is in Rancho Cucamonga. Maybe try the taste of home forum. You might have some luck in there.

Jesus christ, GTR is still around. I remember seeing them in magazines back in 2003.
And doing pretty well last I heard. I've never used them, but they still seem popular among the Mustang owners in the area.

Found a shop in central valley (Fresno) who specializes in differentials and has done many 8,8. I had used them many years ago and had a bad experience, but in the last ten years they have a new owner, manager and location and great reviews and the head guy will be doing my diff. Very pricey but worth knowing Ill be getting an expert set up, and will be using solid spacer. Name of the place is Fearless Gear.

Do it yourself, for what it costs to farm it out, you can buy/rent the proper tools. Very few “experts” out there, a few “good” guys and the rest are the luck of the draw. They may have more experience but they will be happy to soy “good enough and call it a day. No one cares more about your car than you do

Glad you found a shop. I was going suggest Jaws Gear and Axle in Sacramento.
