need help, Baby broke down on the side of the road

What could it be? Coming off the highway came to a stop, put in first gear and the car would not move forward felt like something shattered in tranny. Very hard to put in gear, made a lot of noise so I had it towed home. I was able to get into reverse and backed into the garage. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Car only has 18,000 miles on stock clutch and I don't beat on it. RPMs did not shoot up or anything, could it be the t.o.b. :??:

Tob or the sleeve would be my first thought. Time to drop it out and see.

thanks for the reply prostkr. I guess I have some serious work to do, just glad it happened now and not during the summer. Great car by the way.
