How come no threads about this? I'm basically stock '04 Cobra and can't seem to run into a new 5.0

Well I sold my 03 two weeks before I bought my 2011GT. Stock for stock I believe the same the 2011 would take the 03. That being said I don't think we will see another car like the 03 Cobra. That motor was so easy to make big power it was crazy!!!

I'd have to put my '03 on better tires to compare...but I think my stock 2011 coupe is way faster and handles much better. The Cobra is stock except for FlowBastards.

It really depends on who's driving and what the conditions are like. The new GTs have a better chassis/suspension, SRA, 3.73 gear option, an easier to shift 6spd and an N/A motor that won't get heat soaked.

The Cobra makes way more power under the curve, but can be a bad thing in-terms of traction and wheelhop with the factory rubber and IRS. It also gets heatsoaked easily.

In-terms of true capabilities I'd say they're very even matched, but the new GT is consistently faster because it's easier to drive to it's capability. A lot of 03-04 Cobras just don't perform the way they should.

Well - this should be a lot of fun anyway. I'm waiting for the 'no skill', 'no traction issues' freeway roll starting 60-75 mph. (this of course will turn into the gearing debate of the century!) I'm thinking I can do a slow walk in a freeway roll with 404RWHP.

I don't own a 2011 but i honestly think it would be a drivers race between a 5.0 and a stock 03 cobra. That being said it's kind of impressive because the cobra is heavier. This would also mean both cars have equal drivers.

the weight difference between them is like 50lbs, nothing substantial

This.

That said I'd much rather have a 2011 just because overall it's a far superior car.

I've got a 2.9" cai, bassani x/or 03 and a 2011 prem gt w 401a option and a auto w now a tune and jlt and lethal x/or. I still think 03 will take it ran a 11.875 at 116 w 03 w no nitrous. I need to get both out and just do it. Roll and dig which is tricky w the 03.Since got stock like tires on both right now just do a roll let most whp win.

They're both fantastic cars. I've owned lots of Mustangs and lightning’s, but never a 03/04 Cobra. Actually, I was in the market for one, until I drove the new 5.0. If I find one later down the road in decent shape, I’ll defiantly buy it. My personal opinion, I think the 5.0 will pull on the cobra, just a little.
