I need to get a new set of tires. I am currently running the 555's in the front and the 555R II's in the rear, 275/40/17 all the way around. Between the 555r II and the NT-01 which would be a better performer for the track and street on the rear only? I plan on running NT05's in the front.

Thank you.

Thank you for the post Rocket.

The NT555RII and NT01 are DOT approved competition road race tires. The NT01 is the better performer (IMO) and is taking the place of the NT555RII.

For street and track use however, the NT555RII would be the better option.

Keep in mind, the construction of both these tire models are not like a drag radial. Drag radials use a semi-radial construction for more flex off the line where a road race tire uses a reinforced internal construction for better cornering and stability at higher speeds. Running dedicated road race tires in the rear with an ultra higher performance summer tire in the front can cause handling issues.

For optimal handling it is recommended that you run the same road race tire on all four corners.
