Wait, I want to make this make sense to you.
So when you run an ice tank it should go from the discharge of the ice tank to the intake of the intercooler brick. The coldest water should go to the air directly entering the engine. So ice tank, intercooler, heat exchanger then back to tank. Where you put the pump doesn’t really matter.

What if I'll never run ice in the tank? Would it be better to route from the HE then into the intercooler?

That would be weird to me, but yes I’d still expect that would be the best way.
You’d have to check on non ice conditions, but I’d still expect from the tank directly to the intercooler would be the best.
I guess if you never take the car out the the strip, but even then, I’d rather run E85 if it’s just for street use.
I run E85 and an ice tank.

I do run E85, but I just run regular coolant in the tank. I don't track the car and wouldn't be opposed to putting ice in the tank, but it would be like once every year. Main reason the car won't see the strip is due to not having a cage and I don't want to lose the ability to put my son/carseat in the backseat.

Then you’d be best to run it like I describe.
Maximum effect when you do ice it, and if you run E85 it doesn’t really matter much either way as you won’t reach detonation.
It’s a great upgrade, rear tank and E85.

biminilx is correct, if you are running ice in the tank then go from the tank to the i/c. if not then go from tank to the h/e. the h/e is pulling all the heat out of the water/coolant. it will be the coolest coming right out of the h/e.
this is the way justin told me to plumb the system and im seeing a 12* spread in iat1 vs iat2 at the end of my pull
id image the temp difference would be minimal either way you route it. i dont have any data that shows one way is better than the other. im not going to argue with biminilx way, he may have more knowledge than i

I don’t have data on the other way, but the water actually will cool going thru the lines and into the large water mass in the tank.
I would still always run it the way I do as that gives you the ice option, and if not icing, it’s not worth worrying about. Still I would defer to someone that has done non ice testing, but I’d bet a bunch of money it wouldn’t be worth the concern.
I have an engineering degree and comprehend thermodynamics fairly well, so I like ice and E85 in my blower cars :)

Any risk of ice getting sucked up and damaging the pump or intercooler, or occluding flow?

I didn't build the car, but I guess there is a screen in there somewhere.

Yes, there should be a screen in the discharge for the ice tank. If you fill it normally I haven’t had a problem.
I couldn’t see it hurting anything unless you do something crazy.

Just got everything ran. I used the clear/black hose to run from the intercooler to roughly the HE. The intercooler discharge was put into the lower port on the HE. The intercooler input hose was joined up with the black hose near the HE using one of the ICT billet 1” male/male hose adapters. I did this so I could easily switch back to the black hose if I didn’t like the clear. Now that it’s installed, it looks freaking cool!

I really like this hose. It’s flexible enough for the run but won’t kink. It responds great to a heat gun. We will just have to see how it holds up to time.

The hose is a bit thicker, I had to remove a lot more than I thought I would to get it installed and I completely failed my first try when I just tried to heat it up and slide it on, the pvc reinforcement really makes that impossible. I had to pull the crossover and pulley bridge then reinstalled it all. May seem excessive but I didn’t see anyway around it. Plus It allowed my to clean 16 years of grime off the engine (the open pvcs coat everything in a thin coat of oil) The hose is tight enough and thick enough it was hitting the upper auxiliary pulley mount so I removed a bit of aluminum.

Ok, after all my looking I found hose that seems like it will fit the bill perfectly. It's PVC reinforced and black so it'll blend in. I found it reading about wakeboarding ballests, these guys say its superflexible and you can't beat it at 1.49 a foot. I splurged for 2 day shipping so hopefully it'll be here on the 1st.

Thank you for finding this stuff. I am going to pull the trigger on it Monday.

OK guys, here is an update. News isn't so good. this hose is perfect for all place except bending over the coolant cross over which gets hot. It's softened the hose and started kinking it too…. Not thrilled, but I am going to have to commit to the coolant cross over delete. I really think if I can get this hose off the coolant cross over it'll be fine. Time will tell.

You couldn't increase the length a little to gain some separation from the coolant crossover?

Sucks to hear. I already have the crossover delete so I may be good. Hopefully that does the trick for you

I think it will. My IAT2 are typically around 90-110* so they keep the lines pretty cool. I think the problem comes when the engine stops and the cross over gets HOT as all the engine's heat moves into it. I really think a delete will eliminate this issue, hopefully they just wont touch.
