non L, 4.6L Lariat Q?

My friend has a 4.6L Lariat that he is turning into a Harley truck and last night it "spit" a spark plug out. I heard him when he pulled up, it sounded like an exhaust leak. Popped the hood and the "ears" of the coil pack where it screws down was both broke off, gas was squirting out, and the spark plug was laying on the intake. He said its happened once before and that those Ford are/were notorious for doing that....Is that true? What causes it?
