    Hey All,

I have recently purchased a 1/18 scale 03 Cobra convertible. It is silver metallic and I have realized that I have an extra one.

I want to paint it and then sell it on eBay. So, I'm wondering what color I should paint it that "may" open the auction up to the most amount of possible customers.

Therefore, if you wanted this diecast car, what color would you prefer it to be?

NOTE: I do not have a box for this, so it will be just the car......

At first I voted for MC. But then I realized the seats would need to match as well. So unless they were painted also I wouldnt like it. So I changed to SB.

The top three you have listed will bring in the most cash for your effort. If you do the seats, Mystichrome #1, Comp Orange #2 and Sonic Blue #3. A Screaming Yellow is also hard to find.

How are you painting this? Are you using an Automotive paint and clear coat?

LMAO!!!! No sir. No ass raping here. I see some of the prices guys are asking for these on eBay and some of them are just ridiculous. It's just a diecast car after all. It's not gold and it's not an investment.

I'm doing this just for fun as I enjoy this type of hobby. However, my materials do cost. I do not have any of the colors listed in the poll on hand. So, I will have to go out and buy the color we choose here.

I'm leaning towards SB, but we as a group will decide :).

And I "THINK" I can paint the seats if the group chooses MC. I just painted my NOS bottle and the open/close valve was plastic and I managed to prime and paint it. So, the seats are a possibility. I just don't know how they would come out and I'm not sure if I really want to tackle that level of project.

Yes sir. I always use automotive paint (base coat/clear coat). It is more expensive, but I find the quality is beyond compare and the final product comes out looking very nice.

I'll post up pics of the last Cobra diecast I painted to look like my car. That way you guys can see how it comes out. I don't have any pics here at work, so I'll post them up later.

I was going to say why bother selling it on eBay ,but I looked up a DSG die cast to match my car and it was $250 on there. Good lord.

This is going to be a crazy amount of work.. taping off all those tiny parts and areas. I painted a hot wheel a factory color for someone once, it took me longer than if I was painting a fender.

If I can offer advice, use a color that easily covers the silver in just a couple coats so that you don't have to re-prime and just enough coats so that it's even and looks good. Too much paint starts to fill in the body details, lines and seams and it looks like Dog S**t

Good luck I can't wait to see it done !

I appreciate the advice StrayBullitt. I normally take the car completely apart and then strip it down to bare metal. This allows me to get a good primer down and then paint it to reduce the problem of the paint filling in the lines or metal details molded into the body of the car.

As mentioned earlier I'll post pictures of the last diecast I did so you guys can get an idea of my skill level or lack there of lol.

I wanted an OW one and as far as I can tell they never made one that color. I bought a car off ebay and by the time I bought replacement emblems, emblem glue, OW paint and other supplies I had well over $75 in it. If I had labor in and shipping id need at least $200 to try to sell one.
