Some of my friends and I wanted to get some 49cc pocket rockets/mini bikes just for fun and weekend antics, were in California so i was just wondering what the law is considering these. Do they require a special license? Are they illegal in some towns/cities? The bikes are gas powered and Ive seen electric ones at kid stores so im hoping the same law applies for the two. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah they're pretty much illegal on anything but YOUR private property.
Not on sidewalks, roads, parking lots.
They are cracking down on them like gangbusters in FL so I'd imagine cali would be the same.

i believe here in Ga you can drive a scooter under 49cc on the road as long as you have lights/turn signals. Plus you don't have to have a tag...i wonder if that would work for pocket rockets also?
illegal on anything but your property, my buddy got a ticket for his.
