Programming for a new key with a chipped car

I need to purchase one new key and I have want to know if it is safe to allow the dealer to program the computer for a new key when I have a chip in the cpu.

I believe so, unless Lidio turned off the PATS system (which he wouldn't have done without you telling him to do it)

BUT, I'm not totally sure Jason :shrug:

Are they the same as a F150? If so, then its REAL easy to do. Look up a how-to on the f150's to set new keys, if I am correct, my brother did his own.

If you still have two keys, you can program the new one. If you only have one key, it must go to the dealer.

Pull the chip. You never want to leave it in there when the dealer is programming in the ECM...even if it's just PATS. The problem with that is you need to make sure they don't go test drive the car hard if it has a pulley and the tune is removed. What I would do is find a locksmith or independant shop who can do it for you or wait at the dealer while they do it.
