Pulling Codes

How does one retrieve the check engine codes from our cars? Is there a list of the codes available? Thanks in advance

Easiest way us to buy an obd1 code scanner for 20 bucks or so. Codes list can be found online with a simple google search.

If I buy an OBD1 scanner, do I need to also buy the cable kit? Where is the connector located? Thanks

The connector is under the hood on the drivers side. It is up in te corner at the windshield on the drivers side.
