im putting a newer t45 into my 96 cobra from out of a 98 but i wanted to be sure there were no differences with the speed sensor or anything like that. im guessing it should just slide and plug in since there both t45's right?

No differences at all as long as they are both Cobra spec T-45's. The only differences are between the GT and Cobra spec T-45's (tail shafts are different.) They all used Mechanical speedo sensors.
