Well just thought I'd ask but as a young man I amde a few mistakes in life and of course got in trouble with the law. I've been in the army for over 5 yrs now and have not had an issue with the law since i was 18. I'm now 25 and getting my record expunged...

my question is even with my record getting expunged should i even waste my time trying to enter the career field of L.E.O. or will i get disqualified instantly....???

just thought i would see if anyone knew... thanks guys...

That's kind of hard to answer. Departments are a little different in there hiring process's. I would think that any prior felony arrests, any felony drug use would take you out of the running. DWI, so long as they are over ten years ago may be Okay. What ever types of arrests you have had in the past will put you further down on the totem pole.

It depends on what your record contains. If you are able to get the record expunged that means that you are removing "arrests" without convictions, as convictions, nolo pleas, and any other form of adjudication will show up and cant be expunged.

There are some hurting depts out there and have lowered their D.Q.s.

You may need to search around but if you are otherwise a quality candidate through training, education, experience and testing, you will probably land a job in a local or county dept.

Good luck

Expunged vs. "Sealed"

There have been quite a few inquiries and posts about expungement of records and what it means...Most are really talking about juvenile records which may be "sealed"- meaning not generally available to the public. They are, however, available to law enforcement for legitimate purposes. As for expungement..if you have ever had your fingerprints taken...you are on file with NCIC forever and nothing you can do can remove them. Whether first offender with record "cleaned" as satisfactorily completed, the record still remains for law enforcement, military and govt access. At this point in time with terrorism, I see confidentiality a thing of the past.
