Here's my brother... Lexter (half pug half cocker spaniel). He died December 18th, on the day of my graduation. My whole family came down to Virginia Tech to see me walk, so he passed away alone. He lost his appetite the day before and my sister's bf (a doctor) was taking care of him while we were away. He said that my dog's jaw was kind of locked, so he suspected that Lexter had a minor stroke. We tried to get back to him but the snow storm kept us stranded for 2 days.

Lexter was 14 years old. He had a long life, but he's always had struggles along the way. He was on thyroid medication (hypothyroidism) and had some skin problems. Through it all, he persevered. That's why his death was so sudden to all of us. A fighter till the very end, this Christmas will be hard without him.

Sorry we weren't there by your side, boy. I'll miss you, and no dog will ever be able to replace you. Until we meet again.

Here we are in 1995. I was 8 and he was 6 weeks old.

Lexter at 5. He's got that 'human' look to his face in this picture.

Sucks dude. :( I cried when my dog passed away. It's amazing how attached one can become to these animals.

Sorry to hear that. Looks like he lived a long and happy life though.

I thought you meant that your human brother had died [alone]. I was like "damn, that's pretty messed up."

I know, man. It's been a week and I still cry from time to time. We had him cremated, so when I look at the box he's in I still can't imagine that it's really him inside there.

His last year was tough. He was starting to go blind, deaf, and could barely hold in his bowels. I know he's happy and healthy now looking down on us.

I feel for you. My little white dog in my avatar died this past July at our home while we were sleeping. She had just turned 11. It's the saddest I have ever been, and there are still times when I get teary thinking about her. I think it's actually the only thing that's made me cry like a little girl in over 20yrs.

You try to console yourself knowing that you gave him love and a great life, but it is still hard. Sorry this happened to you (and him), especially this time of year.
