I have 20X9 and 20X10.5 wheels with MPSS tires, but am wanting to switch to Toyo R888's possibly. What is a good tire to run on the front as the R888 will not work on my 9" front wheel?

i have the same wheel setup as you. i was gonna run nitto NT05 275/35/20 Front and 315/30/20 Toyo R888's rear. but i think the R888's are a little to wide for the rear and will rub. So im thinking of getting my vossen's widened or going with a different set of wheels.

i ended up going 255/35/20 and 295/30/20 toyo proxes 4 plus. good tire but not made for alot of HP.

From all I've read, the 315/30/20 R888 fits on 10.5" or 11" wheels and will not rub. I don't have the threads on-hand, but I've searched for it (as that's the tire I want to use out back as well), and people that are quite lowered have run that with no issues.

You could do the 285/35/20 R888 tire on the front 9" wheel, but it may bulge a little. Not certain on that, but the website says that tire is recommended for 9.5-11" wheels, so just a heads up. You could also run two different tires (front stay same, back go with R888s or whatever). Nothing wrong with that, IMO.

How do those hook? What power level are you at?

OP: What size are your tires? I might be interested in buying them!!
I have the same Toyo Proxes that Kingnut is running....He's right, they are not meant for high HP!!
But would be fine to run on the front I guess with the R888 on the rear.
Tire shops frown on this though due to the tire compounds being different might cause over/under steer!

I was looking at the MPSS...the R888 are not gonna work for me cause they are too tall or too short. Im trying to stay in the 27" OAD range.

they are 315/35 and 255/35, but im still not sure if I want to change them. Im going to center up the rear end and see how they do. They might not fit for you as they are very wide and my qtrs. have been stretched out to, but it depends on your wheel I guess. I can tell you that the Mpss are much wider than the nt05 in the same size.

The 315/30/20 are a 27.4". For me, that'd be close enough lol. But yes, there are other sizes that'd be closer. Like a 295 would be exact, or very very close.

OK, what all is involved with "stretching" qtrs? I have heard this a lot lately...

Im looking at the T1Rs in a 305-30-20 to go with my frnt proxes-4 or the MPSS all the way around.

notice all the body filler on the quarter panels. That is all damage that we caused pulling them out. We actually sliced the outer wheelhouse and pulled the qtrs. on the frame machine than welded the wheelhouse back up. Its a lot of work for only about .5" on each side, but I was trying to push the limit on tire size. This car is a total loss rebuild so I have no heartache about cutting it apart.

truth to this??

Is there any truth to the tire compound difference thing? If the MPSS's hook up Ill be fine. The car is not on the road yet. It has a whipple making around 625 to the tires. Not looking to dead hook, but would like to have a decent hook from a 20-30 roll. I am hoping that the extra width would help me some.

Ah okay, another nice alternative. Not sure how the T1Rs compare to the R888s though. Had the R888s (315/35/17) on my 500hp/500tq terminator and they hooked VERY well.

The T1Rs are for the front and the R88 in the back that's what I have been running for a couple years now. My R888s are on 12s in the rear. Do a search u may even see pics of my setup

I have the Eibach coilovers and 10 inch rim with 2 sets of Toyo Proxes R888 315/30/20 and never had issues with rubbing great tire but does not last long. Now I have the 315/35/20 Nitto NT05R they sit nicer as a look on the car and in my opinion hook allot harder.

I run the R888's in a 285-35-20 in the rear and they are an awesome tire for higher horsepower car. I'm at 550rwhp and with BMR upper and lowers I have no traction issues at all.
