Yep. That's why on any given race weekend on iRacing you'll catch the pros practicing in open lobbies.

It's always awesome to find out how slow you really are.
Yea my buddy drives a new GT3R in the Pirelli WC and we always battle eachother on forza (pretty even), iracing he kills me, and in real life... Well its just not fair

Also there is a open source 6 axis setup out there that people are building off of I didn't check the cost of that but it looks promising. Be sure to look at the open source wheel its a really nice piece.

Do you have a link to this by any chance?

the method they are using for motion is called 6DOF look that up on youtube and you can see what people are doing.

This is the site i was looking it has peoples projects on there and its a site geared toward home brew flight and racing http://motionsim.freeforums.net/

Heres the site they are using for getting motion I believe
http://bffsimulation.com/6DOF-Motion-Software.php

This is a link to a interface board folks are using to control their motion
http://motionsim.blogspot.com

There is a lot to this to get a working platform I work with some of the pieces and parts they are using so for me its a little less of a learning curve. I have worked with VFDs and linear actuators and the things that make them work for a long time. The dbox setup is a nice package you are paying for the plug and play capability and easy setup. Going the 6DOF route is a long journey cost wise it might not be the best option in the long run. For me its a nice to have not a I gotta have it kind of thing if I do it its because I want to challenge myself to see if I can do it.

Thanks I will check it out. I have absolutely no experience in ANY of this, but I love a challenge and am not opposed to spending weeks/months to build it myself. It is a hobby after all. At the end of the day I do have a budget to stay within so that will be the biggest factor for me. I already plan on building my own cockpit with aluminum profiling.

You guys have to get an oculus rift for the racing sims. Makes it so much better!

This was my setup. Nothing particularly fancy or exciting and definitely no motion platform, but maybe in a future build.
