Okay, so I'm coming up the 5 fwy. from San Diego, I'm cruisin' 80 or so keeping up with a Black BMW probably around a 2000 model or a little later... Traffic is moving pretty good as we are just getting into Irvine. I get this blip on my radar detector which has been silent for the last hour... I start to slow to 75 and have my eye's in the rear view mirrors, and in both my blind spots... All seems clear. About another 30 seconds and I pass a Highway Overpass where hidden in the columns on the inside of the Diamond lane is a CHP on a bike! My Radar hits 5 bars and I jam on the brakes bringing me down to 70 mph without looking too obvious... I see the cop launching through the gears in my rear view, it's still not clear who he's going to pull... Me, or the BMW??? The BMW makes a casual lane change over to the 2nd lane, and the cop hits the red's and gets in behind him!!! Whew!!! huge sigh of relief!!! That poor bastard in his BMW bought the farm on that one!!! :D

That ticket would have been over $300, you lucky dog.

I had a similar situation on the same freeway about ten years ago, was clipping along at 80+ along side two other vehicles and guess who got nailed (Me) Cop said a plane had tagged me, but I guess not the other two cars:bored:

Count your blessings! You just escaped the ticket by a hair because he could have burned both of you.

Can a single bike pull over 2 cars at once??? The BMW got trapped behind a couple cars and was trying to catch back up (more or less) so I think he was probably going faster than I was... I would say he was a good 8 to 10 cars behind me. I guess I really lucked out since it was only 1 cop on a bike...

My Escort Passport 9500ix has saved me so much on my long trips. It's worth to have an honestly best investment I have made. I caught CHP 3/4 miles ahead while coming back from Vegas. Good distant.

ESCORT PASSPORT 9500ix FTW!!!!!

How much did you get that radar detector??

Mines was $500 new.

Yeah, I just dug out my receipts and manuals... I also paid $500. for mine, brand new from Best Buy... I think they have store wide discounts, or maybe you can redeem a Rewards Coupon to get it for less... This thing has paid for itself at least three times the cost in tickets I've managed to avoid. Well worth it.

I just leave mines on highway. Can't tell in that pic. Mines the blue LED that or the Red LED were the only options escort has.

Technically, we can't have them here either... LOL! Just need to yank it off the windshield and stash it real quick if you get pulled over... :p

Radar detectors are LEGAL in California, however it is illegal to hang anything from the windshield.

My 9500ix has paid itself off countless times. Even saved a friend a few hundred bucks on a road trip to Yellowstone from socal. Who said radar detectors were illegal in California?

Nice save w/ the detector. I've been running my crappy Cobra Detector that I got at BestBuy like 10 years ago. Still works great. It was $200 new. Has probably saved me from 10-15 tickets since purchased. Only received one ticket for speeding since I got it and it was a laser hit on I-70 just cresting a hit. NO detector would have saved me from that.

there is a spot like this coming to CA from NV where the uninitiated get stopped all the time. Some of these people would blow by me while I was going 75-80 only to end up being stopped a little way down the interstate.

laser sucks because it is very hard to get out of those tickets due to their accuracy. You can't say "maybe it was the other zinc yellow car"

Ahhh!!! Thanks for the clarification... I wasn't sure about that. So if you have a dash mount suspending it, there's no problem right?:uh oh:

Can't have anything hanging off the windshield. I've seen other cool mounts that connect to the rear view mirror.

I've had a time where I was cruising 70ish on the 15 in Ontario n I heard it go off n said LASER! I was like damn thought he had caught me. But didn't find any CHP lasering. False alarm. You get LASERED, your done lol. Hard to catch those. Last time too going to Vegas I set up n marked all K band, n out of no where for. 5 miles it wouldn't stop beeping. Truck behind me passed me he also had a radar. Would set mines off. I only worry about KA.
