Real metal racing pedals...?

With all the broken pedals I've been hearing about, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to replace the cheesy plastic with some real metal pedals (Sparco or similar). Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out how these aftermarket units attach. The Sparcos have large holes arrayed vertically right down the middle.

Does anyone have experience with these? How do they attach? Do you have to spend your kid's college fund at a machine shop to put real pedals on this car, or what? Any info would be appreciated...

Thanks.

What kind of pedals did the Cobra R come with? Since it was designed for racing the pedal should withstand abuse.

Are the Saleen parts specifically designed for the Mustang, I assume? That still sounds steep. The Sparco set is $70 or $80, I think.

I asked on the "R" forum, and they said the pedals on the 2000 Cobra R were nothing fancy, either. Plastic and rubber.
