rear brake piston question

I rented the tool to rotate the piston in but when I try to put the caliper back on with the new pads it seems extremly tight. I turned the piston till it was flush with the boot but it seems that it is way too tight almost like I would have to take a hammer to get the caliper to go over the pads. Am I doing something wrong or is it suppose to be real tight fit.
Thanks!

Make sure the "divets" in the piston are vertical with the caliper so the "nub" on the brake pad slides into the recess. Comprende?

Perhaps they gave you pads for a GT instead of a Cobra. Its the same basic caliper, and therefore the same pad backing plate, but the Cobra uses a thicker rotor so the pads need to be thinner.

Unless you're talking about trying to overcome the tension from the spring on top of the pads. I screw in one bolt, then pry down on the caliper until i can screw in the other bolt.

Yes, they gave me the wrong pads. Went to Oreilly and got the right ones. I think I won't be shopping at Advance anymore.
