I was under the car on Friday installing Fog Lights and noticed this panel. I moved back under the engine and saw the filter and drain plug as well.

Why is removing this thing necessary for oil changes? Or not?

Is it in the way of the filter or drain plug? Any chance that the oil will get trapped on top of the cover (engine shield) when you change oil or the filter?
Does this engine have more than 1 drain plug.

From the 2013 Mustang Owners Manual
EngineShield.gif

Engine shield
Some vehicles may be equipped with an aero-shield under the engine.
Remove the front fasteners of the shield to gain access for service. This includes oil and filter changes.

I got fooled by that on my 2012 last year the joke was on me...... As you can see it does not need to be removed on the GT500

Filter is way behind as is plug. I undid mine and couldn't accomplish anything with an oil change that I couldnt with it in place...oil spills while filling could be a different issue

Thanks for the information. I hate not having a car to go check myself. As far as the Owners manuals are concerned, almost all maintenance needs to be done by a Ford service tech. That will be a cold day in a very warm place.

I've never changed my own oil until I got this car. They'll never touch this one until I have no choice

Saw the same thing myself and I looked under it and nothing. Easy change with a lift as drain plug has easy access. Filter also easy and no spillage (I actually was worried about this myself). Used royal purple filter with perfect fit.

As stated above, the panel does not interfere.

But, my '13 GT500 came with fog lights. Why didn't yours?

Hammerhead, Farmer-Ted & I still want to know more about ur ADDED fog lights!

A few of us on here have them on our 2013 GT500, myself included. You can get em from Bob's. They are like $30 shipped. Easy to install.
