I purchased my non-slip 2.93 from SFPHQ along with
my Gatorback belt. I have noticed however that it was
made in Canada & unlike the USA version seems to be
a little harder. I have seen recently threads on Modular
as well as here that Gators have been shreading. I have
had NO problems of wear, tearing, excess dust, slip, or
the like. I wonder if this Canadian belt wears better than
the USA version, hence I've had no problems. Maybe Terry
from SFPHQ can chime in on this thread if in fact there is
any differences in the belt.

Oh by the way, I have shredded 2 gatorbacks and 1 gates belt. I still like the Gback better though.

Yeah, that's my pic, my belt, my pulley, and my mess.........:(
I got the pulley from Terry at SFPHQ and he recommended the Gatorback 740 and said it would be fine. It immediately started dusting and wearing the outside edges of the belt. I emailed him and talked with him on the phone. He said he didnt understand what was going on and I emailed him pics and even he said the pulley was on correctly. On his advice I decided to leave it on and see if it would go away. Well, it did go away sort of.......... Now, Terry recommends I try a Gates belt. I'll try one but if it shreds or dusts I'm giving up on non slip designs altogether.

If I had it to do over again, I'd get a Lightning pulley or a normal 2.93 and run a tensioner idler system with it.

Belt life is based on how hard you drive your Cobra. Adding a lower pulley four and up will definatley reduce the life. You shouldn't have to much problem with a 2.80 upper.

I haven't had a bit of trouble with the gatorback on my 2.9 pulleyb-ys pulley, no idler either. I did put on some belt slip spray when it was new though, belt is black looking now but no dust around, checked it the other day.

04-MystiChrome , there should be no difference in quality of these belts, regardless to where they are made. The reason or reasons people have problems with any belt are relatively simple here.

1) Belt installed improperly - causes belt to wear unevenly

2) Wrong size belt - causes excessive wear

3) Pulley not installed properly - causes Fraying of outer belt rib

4) Misalignment problems - Due to not having belt covering all pulleys in it's rotational pattern.

5) Never spray belt dressing on any Gatorback belt, as over time it will loose it elasticity, as will all belts and cause stretching and deterioration.

Hope this helps, a 99% of the time people are having problems with any belt are caused by human error!! Meaning, belt not installed properly or installed the wrong belt size!!

Think I figured out the problem. I put on a 740 NAPA Gates belt today and noticed that the tensioner index mark is now in the middle of its range. Before, with the Gatorback and my stock belt, it was closer to the end portion of its range. I think this Gatorback was not the right size even though it is marked as a 740. This Gates belt also rides more centered on the idlers. We shall see if it continues to dust.........
