Well this weekend I went to a family renunion in Arkansas (yes I have family in Arkansas, yes they have most of their teeth :) ) Anyways my cousin from Okmulgee, OK was there with his '89 SHO 5-speed. The paint is in fair condition and the driver's seat lumbar was messed up, but besides that an all around nice car. He asked me if I wanted to drive and I jumped at the chance. WOW, I was really surprised at how quick it was, especially for having 115,*** miles on it. It put my head back in the seat and handled pretty well through the twisties. He told me to let him drive as he knows the limits of the car better. Then he proceeded to do a nice burnout as we took off and really showed off the cars handling and accleration. So which are the best? the 89-91's or the 92-95's (not to leave out the last generation but I don't really like them that much). I like the looks of the 92-95's a little better but every on I find around here is an automatic for some reason. :( Anyway sorry about the long post. :)

The performance is going to be the same on 89'-95's. The 89' weighs a little less than the others. The first gens also handle quite a bit different, the second gens are more driver friendly. If you want the car to feel more like a sports car, get a first gen.

Yeah what he said :)

There are also other things to consider. the 94/95s have 'better' brakes on them, and are easily upgradable. the 89-90s have the 'basket' wheels on them and 91+ have the slicers.

Never ridden in a Gen II MTX, but from my 93 ATX & my moms 94 ATX, the 90 does have a 'sportier' ride.........fun cars tho ;-)

Oh BTW a guy in TX With 250k+ on his car, still dynoed at about 195ish at the wheels......................

The later V-6 SHO (so-called second gen) had steel rod shift linkage instead of cable for more positive shifting. I've had a 94 mtx SHO as my daily driver for the last 4 years and it has been a superb car. I actually enjoy it more than the 01 Cobra I bought last fall...it handles better and is more lively in 4th and 5th. Only mod is a superchip. Long live the SHO!

V-8 SHO

I have a large car magazine collection. Car and Driver tested the 96 v-8 SHO and one of their complaints was that it was slower than the v-6 SHO that preceded it. It ran 15.9 sec at 88mph. The various v-6 mtx cars always tested in the low 15s at 93-94 mph.

That's magazines for you. They run mid/low 15s, just like the V6 ATXs. There is also a guy from MI i believe who has minimial mods and has gotten a 14.9 out of it.

magazine

Does anyone have the issue of Car and Driver (may be Motor Trend). It is from 88 or 89 and has an SHO on the front, and it says "Car of the Year" or something like that.

"Americas Best Sedan" What a statement. I really wish Ford could do that again. Ford really had somthing there. But somehow lost sight of it :(

But hey !!! look at the 2003 Roster~!

305 HP Merc Marauder
380 HP Lightning
390 HP Mustang Cobra
500 HP GT-40

Not too bad ;)
